• 2064 Read Only Memories

So, I read some articles in the past about Read Only Memories and there was a lot of positive stuff out there for it. I had not read the articles in full, but I got that it was a cyberpunk adventure game with a non-binary support character. Bravo for being inclusive! That’s what I thought at the time, however, now that I’m playing the game, I’m seeing things a bit differently. I, in no way, feel that people should be ostracized for their sexual or gender orientations. 2064 Read Only Memories feels like it’s trying to send a message more than it wants to be a good game. I think…

  • Guts & Glory

You’ll laugh until it isn’t funny anymore! This game is…Odd, to say the least. I want to say that it is a bad game, yet at the same time I feel like that was the whole point to begin with. So in that sense, calling it “bad” accomplishes nothing. It isn’t bad in the “Let’s make some trash game that doesn’t work” sense. Guts and Glory just has this “cheap” air about it, like the developer got a hold of a budget physics program and started playing with it, and this game is the results of all of their demented mayhem (and ooooh, boy, is there demented mayhem here). There…

  • BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle

When I think of fighting games, I think of semi-complex motions, perfect timing, and a strong focus on competition. It’s you vs me in a battle to the death…or knock out. It’s a battle of wits and skill. In many fighting games, a good deal of skill is dedicated to being able to perform the previously mentioned semi-complex motions with perfect timing. In BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle (BBCTB), things are slightly different. Fighting games have always struggled to hit the mainstream market in a meaningful way. Sure, most casual gamers know who Chun-Li, Kazuya, and Scorpion are, but most of you don’t really identify with Cerebella, Iori, or Sol Badguy.…

  • Punch Club

perhaps a more accurate title would be, “Get Punched Club.” Sometimes it’s even just “Get Clubbed.” However you want to call it, one thing is for sure…You will take far more punishment playing this game than you will deal out. This game is just brutal, that’s all there is to it. So what exactly is Punch Club? Well, essentially it is a time/resource management game where you navigate a wannabe MMA fighter through his day to day dealings in the hopes you gain fortune and glory. What’s that now? You were expecting a game named Punch Club, featuring an aspiring MMA fighter to be an action game? Well, you’re sorely…

  • The Longest 5 Minutes

The Longest 5 Minutes should have just been a visual novel, full stop. I guess I can expand on that thought. Let me start by what I feel the game sets out to do and build from there. The Longest 5 Minutes is a traditional JRPG told in such a way that you, the player, are experiencing memories of the main character who has lost his memory during the final fight with the game’s final boss, the Demon King. These memories take the form of micro dungeons and specific encounters. In each of these, the characters have a set starting level, gear, and money. Each of these memories have anywhere…

  • The Deadly Tower of Monsters

We don’t usually do PC games here, but I got the chance to play The Deadly Tower of Monsters a few weeks ago, and I thought I’d give my thoughts on it. Right from the moment the game boots up, you’re treated to the game’s vocal flavor. The “Director” of a would-be old B movie starts talking about the splash screen. The first time you hear it, it’s funny, but the second, third, fifteenth, etc time you boot it up, you just want to skip it. Beyond that, there are numerous chuckles to be had due to the director’s commentary. Sometimes, the interviewer will even chime in, making it seem…
