• Soul Sacrifice Delta

I tried hard to like the original Soul Sacrifice. I tried to get my girlfriend and my friends to get into it, but ultimately, there was just something missing. As it turns out, there was a lot missing. Delta has included all of the things I wanted from the original and a few I didn’t even know I wanted. I’m going to assume that you, the reader, hasn’t played the original game for a moment. Soul Sacrifice Delta is in the action sub-genre many refer to as Hunter or Raid. What that means is most of the game consists of you fighting a large boss fight alone, with an AI…

  • Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

How does one review a game like this? To tell you the truth, I’m really not sure. I’m limited in what I can say because so much of the game relies on the player not knowing exactly what’s going on. It’s not exactly the type of game most people will play through multiple times unless you’re the type that watches anime seasons multiple times. You see, at it’s heart, Danganronpa is a Visual Novel with real-time exploration and investigation and courtroom battles similar to those found in the Ace Attorney games. At the request of the publisher, I will not discuss anything beyond the first chapter, but I will try to…

  • Now Playing #8

Last time we met, I was having a hard time playing anything buy Toukiden. That hasn’t changed much, but I have been spending some good time playing Danganronpa, as promised. So how is it? That’s difficult to say. For starters, I’ve been sworn to secrecy beyond the first chapter. That said, I haven’t made it very far into the game. It was difficult to begin as there is a lot of dialog, and I was used to the fast-paced action of Toukiden. The story is incredibly slow to start. Think of it like an anime with an uninteresting pilot episode. Like many of those anime with slow or uninteresting pilots,…

  • Toukiden: Age Of Demons

I almost didn’t pick this game up, judging by the screen shots. It looked like a bad Monster Hunter clone with an Eastern mythology skin slapped over the top. In a way, that’s exactly what it is, but it’s so pretty! It is so damned pretty! There is more to a game than just looks, but dammit if this game isn’t pretty. Let’s start with the similarities. Much of the town stuff has a very Monster Hunter feel to it. They seem to have copy/pasted the whole town/mission aspect. They even give you a Poogie of sorts that also functions like the Felyne on the boat in a Fox-like demon…

  • Now Playing #4

At this time of year, we’re all running kind of low on funds. I am no different, and last Friday I found myself in a tight money situation. Do I buy the new Legend of Zelda or do I get Tearaway? Zelda is the easy choice. You know what to expect, and you know it’s going to be a solid game. Tearaway, on the other hand, is something new. You know that Media Molecule makes charming games, but does this game have what it takes to become a classic? I had some credit on PSN from when I got my Playstation 4, so I decided to take a risk and…

  • Soul Sacrifice Final Update Is Live

Soul Sacrifice version 1.30 was released in the States today and includes 16 new challenges. You must update from the game’s Live Area. Once you do, you can access the new content from within Librom’s Forgotten Pacts pages. The two new pacts are called the Hour of Blackness and The Hour of Pure White. All quests are 10* difficulty and should give the diehards a good challenge before Delta comes out.

  • Road Not Taken Trailer

I’ve never been very fond of the rogue-like genre, but this game has a certain charm about it that presses buttons in all the right order. It also helps that it’s not a traditional rogue-like in that it focuses heavily on puzzles. From the video, I gathered that puzzles are a part of the combat as well. Check out the video and see for yourself what the developers of TrippleTown have in store for the Vita and Playstation 4. Road Not Teken is scheduled to release early next year.

  • PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate HD

PixelJunk Monsters is a beautifully rendered tower defense game. What primarily separates Monsters from other tower defense games is cursor movement; while most tower defense games feature the player as an omnipresent figure, Monsters provides the Tiki-Man as the protagonist. This adds a unique layer of difficulty because Tiki-Man is not an agile character. Also, any contact with the monsters you’re tasked with destroying ends in a massive loss of coins and more importantly, time.

  • Killzone Public Beta Today

The Playstation Vita has struggled for over a year to gain a foothold in the Western market, but perhaps things are about to change. For starters, Sony dropped the price of the system and is gearing up for it’s first really decent first person shooter. While I don’t care much for these games, a lot of people in the US have been clamoring for a good FPS on a portable system for years. There have been good games over the years, but most were riddled with bad controls. This one looks to be the game that makes or breaks the Vita in the States. I really hope it turns heads…
