• Monster Hunter Generations

Anyone who knows me probably knows how much I adore Monster Hunter. I’ve played well over three thousand hours between the different games. I skipped Monster Hunter Tri and only played a little bit of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. I was not fan of the decision to bring the games exclusively to Nintendo platforms, but eventually I accepted it and bought in. I doubled down with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate by buying the *New* 3DS XL and I haven’t regretted doing so one bit. The right analog nipple is a godsend for these games. Here we are just over a year after that game and Capcom has graced us with…

I’m a horrible blogger. I really am. I’ve been slacking so much lately, but it’s not my fault. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and the New 3DS came out on the same day. Up until now, I have pretty much hated my 3DS. There were a few reasons, but the main ones were my particular 3DS hurt my hands, and that the 3DSXL made the games look even worse than they did on their native 3DS screen size. When I say it hurt my hands, I mean that my special edition Pikachu 3DS has a sharp “lip” where the bottom plastic literally carves into my fingers the way I hold it.…

  • Freedom Wars

First off, let me just say this: I consider myself a relatively competent player when it comes to the “Hunter” genre of games. I’ve got a couple thousand hours logged, between Monster Hunter titles, Ragnarok Odyssey (ACE), both Soul Sacrifices, Toukiden, God Eater, etc. I’m no fresh recruit. Very little impresses me anymore. This game, FREEDOM WARS, has managed to strike a chord with me that hasn’t been struck since the release of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Story-wise, this is your typical anime cliches mess. Main character gets amnesia, has to start over from the bottom rung, yadda yadda yadda. Nobody really plays these games for the story. It’s all about the…

It’s been a long while since I’ve properly updated this section. I have been looking to get a new theme made that will keep the layout of the front page even after going to a post, but so far, I have not had much results. I may be switching to a custom front end instead of WordPress, but I really do like the tools I have here. As far as what we’re playing, I have been playing quite a few games. I’m still playing Natural Doctrine online from time to time, as well as quite a few other games I have to reciew. Quite a few games, actually: Senran Kagura,…

  • Soul Sacrifice Delta

I tried hard to like the original Soul Sacrifice. I tried to get my girlfriend and my friends to get into it, but ultimately, there was just something missing. As it turns out, there was a lot missing. Delta has included all of the things I wanted from the original and a few I didn’t even know I wanted. I’m going to assume that you, the reader, hasn’t played the original game for a moment. Soul Sacrifice Delta is in the action sub-genre many refer to as Hunter or Raid. What that means is most of the game consists of you fighting a large boss fight alone, with an AI…

  • Toukiden: Age Of Demons

I almost didn’t pick this game up, judging by the screen shots. It looked like a bad Monster Hunter clone with an Eastern mythology skin slapped over the top. In a way, that’s exactly what it is, but it’s so pretty! It is so damned pretty! There is more to a game than just looks, but dammit if this game isn’t pretty. Let’s start with the similarities. Much of the town stuff has a very Monster Hunter feel to it. They seem to have copy/pasted the whole town/mission aspect. They even give you a Poogie of sorts that also functions like the Felyne on the boat in a Fox-like demon…

  • Capcom Continues To Disappoint Me

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XInD7Hz47MI&w=540&h=304] Here’s the new trailer for the Japanese 3DS game, Monster Hunter 4. Anybody who knows me, knows that Monster Hunter is one of my favorite games. They also know that I’ve grown accustomed to playing it on the PSP. I can get down with dual analogs, but after 2000+ hours of playing with the “Monster Hunter Claw”, it’s next to impossible for me to adjust to the 3DS’s control scheme. The last game was the first Monster Hunter title I skipped since MHF first hit the U.S. on the PSP. If this does come Stateside, I may just have to pick it up. Damn you, Capcom! This could have…
