• Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II

I wanted to talk about this game the minute I started playing it, but I knew a lot of people had just gotten into the first game to play them in order. Since it’s nearly impossible to talk about this game without discussing the ending of the first, I decided to wait a long time before I gave my final verdict. I originally wanted to do this in two parts. The first part was going to be how I felt about the game during the beginning chapters where Rean is searching for his classmates. The second was going to be how I felt about the game after pushing through to…

  • Superdimension Neptune VS Sega Hard Girls

Superdimension Neptune vs. Sega Hard Girls(SNvSHG) is is a RPG for the Vita where you play as the anthropomorphized representations of console systems & hardware. Combined from two different series (Hyperdimension Neptunia & Sega Hard Girls) that follow the same basic premise of hardware themed characters, we finally see a cross-over game as the two series go head to head, vying the girls representing modern consoles against classic Sega machines. What could go wrong? Unfortunately everything. SNvSHG suffers from a bewildering series of problems in its design, but let’s get one of the worst offenders out of the way; the frame-rate. Well the game plays at a fairly normal 30FPS,…

  • Senran Kagura: Estival Versus

Gigantic breasted ninja running around trying to tear one another’s clothes off? Must be time for another installment of Senran Kagura. This time, they’re in their bathing suits most of the time. So how does one attack someone until they’re down to just their bra and panties? Oddly enough, probably a series first, when you transform into your ninja gear, you actually have MORE clothes on than before. Try not to focus on that too much; it may induce nose bleeds. Where do I begin with this one? Obviously, this is going to be sensitive material to some people out there. This game is not for them. It’s for a…

  • Risk of Rain

A while back, I picked up Risk of Rain on Steam. I knew it was coming out for Vita and PS4, so I didn’t play too much of it on my PC as I really felt it would fit the Vita quite well. Turns out that, while it does work one the Vita, it’s much better on PC or the PS4. This is mostly because the game has a lot of buttons to assign considering how relatively simple it is. I managed to find a layout that suits my style and is interchangeable on the Vita and PS4. I like being able to use both the d-pad and analog stick…

  • Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

On the surface, LOH:TOCS may seem like a traditional JRPG, but it’s really a sweet love story of an unworthy noble and his love affair with a delusional, undignified, working class poor boy. On a serious note, the game is easily summed up as one part Persona 3/4, one part Suikoden, and three parts Trails in the Sky. You play as Rean Schwarzer in his first year at Thors Military Academy. He and his 8 classmates belong to a special trial program called Class VII. In Thors, The other five classes (that’s right, there’s no class VI) are split into nobles and peasants. As you’d expect, the nobles are real…

  • Amnesia: Memories

So, I’m a girl named Heather…or maybe my name is Amber…or was it Rebecca? Ever since this damn bug-boy crashed into my brain, I can’t remember a damn thing! There sure are a bunch of girly boys here who seem to be willing to help me figure it out. And that, my friends, is the entire premise of Amnesia: Memories. Tune in next month when I’ll have yet another gripping review for you! All joking aside, Amnesia: Memories is actually quite an entertaining story, or maybe I should say stories. When the aforementioned bug-boy crashed into your head, he took you to a sort of limbo and tells you that…

  • Corpse Party

I’ve never been this terrified playing a game. That is, early on. The beginning of Corpse Party is great at getting the player into the creepy setting. The music, the story, all of it…the creepy factor is through the roof. Having played the first or second games is not necessary as the game’s story does a great job of catching the player up. In traditional XSEED fashion, the game is translated wonderfully with only a few mistakes throughout and the ones that I found were just spelling errors that slipped through the cracks. There is no English dialog, but all of the Japanese dialog is exceptionally voice acted. In fact,…

  • Now Playing 9/6/2015

My list of games to review keeps growing, but when it comes to Vita reviews, I’m kind of solo here. Jason is working on Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX and from what he tells me, it’s a real charmer. As for me, I’m playing way too many anime games. If you’re a fan of Japanese oddities, the Vita, like the PSP, really is a great system. I’m currently playing two separate games of Amnesia: Memories (One on Vita and one on Steam) because depending on the world you choose, the game’s story is VERY different. It really does warrant 4 separate plays, but I’m only doing the two for the…

  • Dungeon Travelers 2

Dungeon crawlers and I have had a strange relationship. If you’ve seen previous reviews of mine, I have a special fondness for a game called Mazes of Fate that released on the Game Boy Color. It just gave you so much freedom to explore beyond just moving around in the dungeons. While Dungeon Travelers 2 does have random battles (I like when I can see the enemies on screen), it also has a fairly detailed story. Unfortunately that story, and the rest of the game, is blanketed with scantily clad girls. It’s a huge Japanese thing, and a part of me enjoys it to no end, but the rest of…

  • Lost Dimension

Lost Dimension is very good for different reasons you might find in most SRPGs. For starters, the strategy is there, but it’s not exceptionally difficult. You just need to win in a timely fashion to get that S rank that earns you free gear (usually potions and shit). Your allies can die, but allowing them to fall in combat might alter their opinion of you. The main draw to the game is the Danganronpa aspect. The story has your characters, special individuals with unique powers, trapped in a tower that is believed to have been created by a psychopath that calls himself “The End”. When you get to a certain…
