• Senran Kagura: Estival Versus

Gigantic breasted ninja running around trying to tear one another’s clothes off? Must be time for another installment of Senran Kagura. This time, they’re in their bathing suits most of the time. So how does one attack someone until they’re down to just their bra and panties? Oddly enough, probably a series first, when you transform into your ninja gear, you actually have MORE clothes on than before. Try not to focus on that too much; it may induce nose bleeds. Where do I begin with this one? Obviously, this is going to be sensitive material to some people out there. This game is not for them. It’s for a…

  • Risk of Rain

A while back, I picked up Risk of Rain on Steam. I knew it was coming out for Vita and PS4, so I didn’t play too much of it on my PC as I really felt it would fit the Vita quite well. Turns out that, while it does work one the Vita, it’s much better on PC or the PS4. This is mostly because the game has a lot of buttons to assign considering how relatively simple it is. I managed to find a layout that suits my style and is interchangeable on the Vita and PS4. I like being able to use both the d-pad and analog stick…

  • Trillion: God of Destruction

A while back I came to the realization that I really don’t like rogue-likes or dungeon crawlers. Then a few days ago, Idea Factory sent me a review copy of Trillion. Trillion is a game where you must kill a boss with a trillion hit points. There is a lot of Disgaea-like story within, but that last statement pretty much sums up the game’s premise. You are the Great Overlord of some netherworld who rules over the other overlords. Some giant creature comes through a gate and kills everyone by the thousands, devouring everything in sight. Your brother asks if he can go destroy this threat once and for all,…

  • Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

On the surface, LOH:TOCS may seem like a traditional JRPG, but it’s really a sweet love story of an unworthy noble and his love affair with a delusional, undignified, working class poor boy. On a serious note, the game is easily summed up as one part Persona 3/4, one part Suikoden, and three parts Trails in the Sky. You play as Rean Schwarzer in his first year at Thors Military Academy. He and his 8 classmates belong to a special trial program called Class VII. In Thors, The other five classes (that’s right, there’s no class VI) are split into nobles and peasants. As you’d expect, the nobles are real…

  • Alto’s Adventure

OK, so this isn’t going to be a long and in-depth review. I just wanted to talk about a game I found enjoyable. It’s not a perfect game by any means, but what I played of it was extremely relaxing and enjoyable. The music is subtle and calming while managing to avoid becoming repetitive. In games like this, I often turn the music off and the sound effects off, but this game is different. The sound of the board carving the snow is much like white noise, both in it’s monotony as well as it’s zen-like nature. As you might gather, Alto’s Adventure is an endless runner with procedurally generated…

  • The Deadly Tower of Monsters

We don’t usually do PC games here, but I got the chance to play The Deadly Tower of Monsters a few weeks ago, and I thought I’d give my thoughts on it. Right from the moment the game boots up, you’re treated to the game’s vocal flavor. The “Director” of a would-be old B movie starts talking about the splash screen. The first time you hear it, it’s funny, but the second, third, fifteenth, etc time you boot it up, you just want to skip it. Beyond that, there are numerous chuckles to be had due to the director’s commentary. Sometimes, the interviewer will even chime in, making it seem…

  • Amnesia: Memories

So, I’m a girl named Heather…or maybe my name is Amber…or was it Rebecca? Ever since this damn bug-boy crashed into my brain, I can’t remember a damn thing! There sure are a bunch of girly boys here who seem to be willing to help me figure it out. And that, my friends, is the entire premise of Amnesia: Memories. Tune in next month when I’ll have yet another gripping review for you! All joking aside, Amnesia: Memories is actually quite an entertaining story, or maybe I should say stories. When the aforementioned bug-boy crashed into your head, he took you to a sort of limbo and tells you that…

  • Corpse Party

I’ve never been this terrified playing a game. That is, early on. The beginning of Corpse Party is great at getting the player into the creepy setting. The music, the story, all of it…the creepy factor is through the roof. Having played the first or second games is not necessary as the game’s story does a great job of catching the player up. In traditional XSEED fashion, the game is translated wonderfully with only a few mistakes throughout and the ones that I found were just spelling errors that slipped through the cracks. There is no English dialog, but all of the Japanese dialog is exceptionally voice acted. In fact,…

  • Now Playing 10/30/2015

Oh man! So much has happened since my last update. Hell, a lot has happened since my last review even. For the few months, my mother has been suffering in the hospital with heart and lung issues. I’ve been spending all of my free time up there with her, so I’ve had little time to dedicate to this page. On October 27, her suffering ended and sadness was felt by all who knew her. I know this has little to do with video games, but I just wanted to get that off my chest. The games I’ve been playing are a shocking lot. I’ve been sent quite a few graphic…

  • Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax

People call BlazBlue and Guilty Gear “anime fighters”, but games that get labeled as such are rarely based on anime prior to their release. Perhaps a better term is “air-dash fighters” as it seems to be a common mechanic in games like them. Dengeki Bunko, on the other hand, is a manga publisher in Japan similar to Shonen Jump. Dengeki Bunko has numerous manga lisences under its belt, so with with French Bread (Melty Blood and Under Night In-Birth) developing the game, and SEGA publishing the game, it kind of acts as a huge cross-over game with a solid fighting system. The stages and the music that goes along with…
