Last week was the final week of school before summer vacation. It feels great to be free. Last week, I also got a review copy of Lost Dimension. My first impressions were…mixed. I can’t stand the character design for any of the characters. They have a seriously “budget” vibe going on, but once I got past that initial reaction, I was introduced to a very good strategy RPG. It’s as though they combined Danganronpa’s “catch the killer” vibe with Natural Doctrine’s combat system and a sterile white dystopian future aesthetic similar to Freedom Wars. When I say that it’s like Natural Doctrine, I mean that in the best possible way.…

I’ve been the worst at updating this blog. I got a little discouraged when I paid someone to make a custom theme for my needs and they didn’t come through. Long story short, our communication was near non-existent after our initial meeting. In the end, the project was never finished and I’m out the money. That’s enough of the pity party. Here’s what’s happening! First up, the Bloxels Kickstarter is a full success. There are 10 days left to get in on it. If you have kids and want to help spur their creative side, this looks like an awesome device/development tool. So this is a Now Playing feature, so…

  • Bloxels Kickstarter Is Live!

I’ve known about this Kickstarter for a while. These guys are the brilliant minds behind Floors and the Adventure Time Game Wizard for iPad and Android. Check out this Kickstarter. If you have kids and a tablet, this should be a no-brainer.

I’m a horrible blogger. I really am. I’ve been slacking so much lately, but it’s not my fault. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and the New 3DS came out on the same day. Up until now, I have pretty much hated my 3DS. There were a few reasons, but the main ones were my particular 3DS hurt my hands, and that the 3DSXL made the games look even worse than they did on their native 3DS screen size. When I say it hurt my hands, I mean that my special edition Pikachu 3DS has a sharp “lip” where the bottom plastic literally carves into my fingers the way I hold it.…

It’s been a little over a month since the last update, so what are we playing at Portable Review? Well, I am still playing Freedom Wars. I have a few new local players I am guiding through the main story and showing the ropes to and I’m still trying to fully upgrade some of my gear, but Oltatum fights are annoying. Aside from that, I have treated myself to a little Christmas present or two. You see, Konami finally released Suikoden II on North American PSN and along with it, they made the original fully supported by the Vita and Vita TV…err Playstation TV. <–Oh yea! I got one of…

  • Jet Car Stunts

Jet Car Stunts feels like the evolution of GripShift with uglier graphics. If I were lazy, that would be the end of the review. If you’re still interested in the game, keep reading. This game is incredibly ugly. Let’s get that out of the way first. Its flat, overly polygonal graphics will not win any awards, but they are functional. While graphics aren’t the strong suit of Jet Car Stunts, the pseudo-physics are. Controling your cars is quite easy and responsive once you get the hang of the two different brakes; one for the ground, and one for arial breaking. Your nitros/turbos work both on the ground and in the…

  • Logitech K480 Bluetooth Keyboard

The Logitech K480 is a keyboard that boasts a feature most cannot. It has a bluetooth switch that can remember up to three devices, be they Linux, Mac, or PC, or other. The keyboard has a slot where you can place your iPad or Galaxy TAB or phone or whatever phone/tablet shaped thing you want. It props it up at an appropriate viewing angle. If you have a small phone or a small tablet and a large phone, you can actually “dock” them both in the keyboard and switch between them with the massive dial on the left as you see fit. The unit comes in two colors; Black/Green and…

  • Monster Monpiece

I was apprehensive to pick up this title at first. It looked like a good card/strategy game, but it is clearly over-sexualized with the girl-rubbing mechanic. Unfortunately, it is needed in order to level up your monster girls. I’m going to get the rubbing mechanics out of the way as it is really the only glaring flaw to the game. When you rub or tap a monster girl (something you have to pay to do) in the right places, they react with noises and blushing animations. If you manage to please them enough in the given time, the card levels up…and the girls take some of their clothes off. The…

It’s been a long while since I’ve properly updated this section. I have been looking to get a new theme made that will keep the layout of the front page even after going to a post, but so far, I have not had much results. I may be switching to a custom front end instead of WordPress, but I really do like the tools I have here. As far as what we’re playing, I have been playing quite a few games. I’m still playing Natural Doctrine online from time to time, as well as quite a few other games I have to reciew. Quite a few games, actually: Senran Kagura,…

  • Ys: Memories Of Celceta

I originally said I was going to play through both Valhalla Knights 3 and Ys:MoC, reporting on which was the better game, but Ys blew me away so much that I have literally not played a bit of VK3 since delving into this game. It’s fantastic! If you’re on the fence about picking it up, skip this review and just go buy it. I think you’ll have no regrets in your purchase…unless if goes on sale for %50 off the next day. It’s hard to say exactly what it is that I enjoy the most about it. I would like to think that it’s just so well crafted with each…
