So…Soul Sacrifice Delta is a thing. It’s been consuming my soul like a top sorcerer of Avalon. I was extremely apprehensive about this game as I found much of the original flawed. If you completed the first game and were worried about lack of content, fear not. Not only did they add the Grim faction to cover the neutral path, but they’ve actually added some content to the original Avalon story and added complete story paths for both Grim and Sanctuary. I’m going to cut it off there before I go into full review mode. Needless to say it’s going to have a pretty positive review, so if you’re on…

  • Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God

Let me preface this review with the fact that I don’t usually care very much for rogue-like games. I had hoped that Sorcery Saga was different. Is it? Well, yes. Did it convert me into a rogue-like devotee? Not really. Starting this game is extremely long-winded. Tutorial screens are abundant in the first couple hours of this game. As Pupuru, a carefree sorceress who comes upon a magic cookbook and a strange cat…bunny…thing named Kuu. It’s a good thing she found that book because a major curry house has just moved into town and is threatening her favorite curry shop. Maybe with the special ingredients from the book, she can…

  • Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

How does one review a game like this? To tell you the truth, I’m really not sure. I’m limited in what I can say because so much of the game relies on the player not knowing exactly what’s going on. It’s not exactly the type of game most people will play through multiple times unless you’re the type that watches anime seasons multiple times. You see, at it’s heart, Danganronpa is a Visual Novel with real-time exploration and investigation and courtroom battles similar to those found in the Ace Attorney games. At the request of the publisher, I will not discuss anything beyond the first chapter, but I will try to…

It has been over a month since I last updated the blog, and I am very sorry for that. Between work, visiting my mother, and attending my weekly fighting game meet ups (which, admittedly have a priority in my life), I’ve had very little time to update the site. I have a couple finished reviews that I will be posting over the next week or so. That’s it for the blah blah update. Onto the games! In the last month, my portable gaming has taken a bit of a hiatus, but I have been playing Danganronpa enough to review it, and I downloaded and played both demos of Conception II…

Last time we met, I was having a hard time playing anything buy Toukiden. That hasn’t changed much, but I have been spending some good time playing Danganronpa, as promised. So how is it? That’s difficult to say. For starters, I’ve been sworn to secrecy beyond the first chapter. That said, I haven’t made it very far into the game. It was difficult to begin as there is a lot of dialog, and I was used to the fast-paced action of Toukiden. The story is incredibly slow to start. Think of it like an anime with an uninteresting pilot episode. Like many of those anime with slow or uninteresting pilots,…

If you’ve been reading along with these updates, you know that most of the games I review are ones I buy myself. Of course, from time to time, I’ll get review copies sent my way from the developers. Toukiden is not one of those review copies. Instead, it has proven to be a real distraction. I am supposed to be playing Danganronpa, Sorcery Saga, or Lone Survivor (All of which I enjoy), but since Toukiden has found its way into my Vita, I haven’t been able to focus on those other games. I am really enjoying this game immensely. Toukiden has really been scratching a certain itch; and itch that…

  • Toukiden: Age Of Demons

I almost didn’t pick this game up, judging by the screen shots. It looked like a bad Monster Hunter clone with an Eastern mythology skin slapped over the top. In a way, that’s exactly what it is, but it’s so pretty! It is so damned pretty! There is more to a game than just looks, but dammit if this game isn’t pretty. Let’s start with the similarities. Much of the town stuff has a very Monster Hunter feel to it. They seem to have copy/pasted the whole town/mission aspect. They even give you a Poogie of sorts that also functions like the Felyne on the boat in a Fox-like demon…

If you were a gamer in the Playstation One era, chances are that you played at least one skateboarding game. Most people fell into the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater faction, but a lot of real skaters found themselves enjoying Thrasher: Skate and Destroy. Even if you didn’t play in in Pro mode, the game had a certain level of authenticity to it that catered to those who knew the mechanics of tricks. If you did play it on Pro, a whole new level of skill was needed; you had to press the square button at the right time in order to land your tricks. Of course, a lot of why…

Ten days ago, I started playing Ys: Memories of Celceta after playing just over 30 hours of Valhalla Knights 3 the week before. I said I would finish out the week playing Ys and see which game would compel me to play it most. At first, I was constantly wanting to go back to VK3. The story in Ys was so incredibly boring at the start; just another amnesiac protagonist who gets involved with everyone’s problems. After I forced myself to push through the opening bullshit, Adol’s amnesia started to feel less like a lame trope and more like an integral part of the game and exploring the world. I…
